Nuclear power for offshore systems has been gaining increasing interest for reasons of decarbonization, efficiency, and improved oil and gas recovery. The floating production industry has begun the journey to standardization through such efforts as IOGP's JIP 33. This keynote will discuss the value of the Open Architecture Standard (OAS) for FPSOs and how a properly developed OAS is a good way to integrate nuclear power onboard for electrical power generation and process heat. The OAS is partially based on the idea that nuclear reactor modules can be manufactured as standardized “approved type” components which are well described for incorporation during the Concept select phase of a project.
