Subject: Large-Format WAAM for Low-Volume, High-Integrity Structures in Demanding Offshore and Subsea Environments
Speaker: Peter Richards, CEO, DEEP Manufacturing
Presentation Description: Manufacturing requirements for large-scale, safety-critical metal structures in the energy sector are evolving - driven by increasing pressure on lead times, supply chains and performance in demanding environments. Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) is a viable, industrialized solution.
This talk explores how large-format WAAM is enabling the production of structural and pressure-rated structural components for subsea and other corrosive, high-demand energy applications. With the ability to manufacture complex geometries faster than traditional casting or forging, WAAM is shifting what is possible for high-integrity applications.
We will present two case studies:
- The printing of a section of Nickel Aluminum Bronze (NAB) propeller, which was developed to support reduced mass, highlighting the qualification approach and explaining how WAAM can support production of complex geometries backed up through rigorous testing.
- A world-first DED-Arc achievement: a pressure vessel for human occupancy, demonstrating how certified additive manufacturing can meet stringent safety requirements while accelerating delivery.
The session will focus on what these applications mean for real-world adoption, and how organizations can move from experimentation to deployment at scale.
